Draughts
Draughts — is a table game for two players who play on the square multicellular board (the squares are coloured alternately in dark and light colours) with pieces of similar value.
Pieces are used for the opponents’ battles basing on certain rules.
Classifications of draughts games
On the board sizes:
- 12õ12 (Canadian),
- 10õ10 (International),
- 8õ8 (the majority of draughts variants).
Features of game rules:
- Starting position of pieces - various variants are possible.
- Direction of the move and capture - on a diagonal or on a vertical/horizontal.
- Possibility of a simple capture backward.
- The freedom of the king movement.
- Rules of capture preference - in the presence of several variants of the capture in one game the player can select any variant; in other variants the player’s freedom to choose is limited.
- Rules of a simple piece transformation into the king – differences in the rule to become a king when moving of a king field during the capture of several pieces of the opponent. In some rules a piece which passed the kings row becomes a king immediately and can continue to capture as a king. In other rules a simple piece becomes a king only on the following move if the previous one was completed on the kings row.
