Rules «7 Card Stud»

The objective of the game is to win the pot which is collected after 5 (or less) betting rounds.

Game rules

In order to win the pot a player needs to collect the hand which is stronger than the opponent’s one or with the help of the bet to persuade the opponent to fold (in this case the betting player wins the pot without showdown).

Up to 8 players can participate in a game.

Player is dealt 7 cards: 3 Hole cards and 4 Face up cards. The hand in 7 Card Stud consists of 5 cards.

Suits in the collected hands bear no special importance. There are no community cards.

Game course

There is an obligatory stake Ante in 7 Card Stud. Small sum of money is taken from all players to the pot. After that the deal starts.

Each player is dealt 3 cards: 2 Hole cards and 1 Face up card. (The hole cards can’t be seen by other players).

The player with the lowest-ranking up card is obliged to start the game with a taken bet called the «bring-in».

Bring-in is an obligatory stake (it is usually equal to Ante multiplied by 2) of the player who has the lowest face up card after the first deal round. Moreover, the player has the right to choose to bring-in or to make a standard bet.

If two or more players have similar rank up card then the suits are used to define the lowest card.

Suits ranking: ♠ spades, hearts, diamonds, ♣ clubs.
Suits bear no special importance in other game rounds.

When a player did a bring-in (or a standard bet) the betting starts.

Betting

There are five rounds of betting in the game. The first betting round starts after the deal of the first 3 cards.

The betting moves clockwise around the table until the betting finishes.

If none of the players called the biggest bet then the game finishes at this moment and the pot is taken by the player who made this bet (it is valid for all betting rounds). After the biggest bet was called by all interested players then the further raises are forbidden.

After all bets are called the following card is dealt face up and etc until the player’s cards quantity is equal to 7 (the seventh card is a hole card).

Showdown

When the betting rounds are finished and if all bets are called or everybody checked the players open their cards and compare hands – showdown.

The player who was the last to bet or raise in the last betting round, is the first one to open the cards. If no one bet or raised in the last betting round then the player who has the highest hand in the face up cards, is the first one to open cards.

A player who collects the best hand of 5 cards wins the game. If several players have equal hands then the pot is shared on equal parts between them.

Special rules

If a player shows a Pair (One Pair) after the forth dealt card (Forth Street) then this player can make a double size bet. Three raises are maximum possible.

It is possible that there are not enough cards to deal the last one (hole card) to every player. In this case the seventh card in the last betting round is not dealt to the players. And one card is open in the center of the table which will be used as a common card. In case all players use the common card then the bets are not allowed in this betting round.
